Sustainability is not just a legal requirement or a trend, but a vital commitment to the future of data centers. The “Sustainability & Green Data Center” category honors outstanding examples that take a new and holistic approach to the environmentally responsible construction and operation of data centers.
This category addresses operators, planners, infrastructure providers, and municipalities that have developed innovative solutions in areas such as energy efficiency, waste heat utilization, resource management, and sustainable land development and building design.
To what extent are energy and resource consumption reduced, and waste heat utilized?
(Proof through valid measurement data, reliable metrics on CO₂ reduction, or other positive environmental impacts)
Is the concept embedded in a broader sustainability strategy (e.g., social aspects, governance)?
Can the measures serve as best practices, and are they transferable to other projects?
Are novel, future-oriented solutions being developed, or are existing technologies being combined in an unconventional way?
Unlike traditional industry awards, the German Datacenter Talents & Impact Award does not focus solely on prize money – which is only awarded in the Young Talents category – but rather on long-term visibility and lasting value for the award recipients.
Winners will have the opportunity to present their work during the award ceremony at the German Datacenter Conference in front of a distinguished audience. In addition, they may showcase their projects at a relevant GDA event — establishing themselves as thought leaders, sharing best practices, and further developing their approaches.
The awarded projects will also be professionally developed into case studies and published in cooperation with the GDA — featured in the Datacenter Outlook Germany as well as in a standalone format. This not only increases visibility for the winners but also enhances their credibility.
