The German Datacenter Association is pleased to welcome the city of Kelsterbach as a new member. The city from Hesse contributes its municipal expertise, forward-looking infrastructure projects, and commitment to digitalization to the association.
Located at the southwestern edge of Frankfurt am Main, Kelsterbach, with a population of approximately 18,000, leverages its proximity to the world’s largest internet exchange, DE-CIX, to grow as a digitalization hub. With KelsterLab, which has been promoting digital education and innovation since June 2024, and the ongoing expansion of a comprehensive fiber optic network, Kelsterbach is advancing projects that strengthen urban planning, environmental protection, and citizen engagement. These initiatives enhance the city’s appeal and provide young talents with the opportunity to actively shape the digital future.
“Kelsterbach is situated in the heart of the FrankfurtRheinMain metropolitan region, home to DE-CIX, one of the world’s largest internet exchange points. The establishment of data centers, suppliers, and other businesses is of great economic importance to the region, and particularly to the city of Kelsterbach,” explains Manfred Ockel, Mayor of Kelsterbach. “In this dynamic settlement process, we aim to benefit from the network and experience of the GDA and actively contribute our location advantages to the digitalization sector.”
“With the inclusion of the city of Kelsterbach in our association, we gain an important municipal perspective that brings fresh impulses and valuable expertise to the collective exchange on the data center ecosystem and its further development,” says Anna Klaft, Chairwoman of the GDA, welcoming the membership. “The city’s innovative focus on digital infrastructure and its efforts to create sustainable, future-proof solutions are an essential building block for the advancement of the data center industry. We look forward to engaging in productive dialogue and close cooperation.”
