The city in the heart of the Rhine-Main metropolitan region advances in becoming a popular location for the digitalisation industry: Since NTT Global Data Centers EMEA GmbH (e-shelter) relocated its headquarters to Hattersheim am Main in 2019, more and more companies have become interested in commercial space in the "Digital City Hattersheim". The technology company YASKAWA announced plans to relocate its European headquarters to Hattersheim am Main. GMS Global Media Services GmbH and THING Technologies GmbH will follow. Data centre operator Digital Realty will soon operate a campus on the outskirts of the city.
The advantages of the location are obvious: Hattersheim am Main is located in the immediate proximity of Frankfurt Airport and the A3, A5 and A66 motorways, but above all to the world's largest Internet Exchange Point, DE-CIX - with better power capacity and greater space availability than in the Frankfurt city area. In addition to the strategically favorable geographic location, the short official channels make Hattersheim an attractive location. The individual support provided to companies by the municipal business development department enables lean and flexible coordination processes and a well-networked cooperation.
Mayor Klaus Schindling's credo is not only to make land available to the companies, but also to fully integrate the global players in the region: With possibilities of waste heat emission for heating apartments, attractive living space or contact to secondary schools for the acquisition of skilled workers, the aim is to create a complete "ecosystem" that makes it possible to really arrive in the region.
"It is of central importance for our municipality that we involve local citizens on the path to digitalization. This also includes clarifying the location issue of new data centers," emphasizes Klaus Schindling.
Founded in Hattersheim in 2020, Taunus Innovation Campus e.V. (TIC) aims to drive forward and integrate digitalisation in the region - focusing on future topics and future technologies.
