The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the Mainova WebHouse data center campus in Frankfurt's Seckbach district recently took place. Mainova WebHouse has been a member of GDA since 2021, and its Managing Director Oliver Schiebel has been a member of the Association's Board since April of the same year.
Mainova WebHouse is a 100% subsidiary of Mainova AG: The Frankfurt-based infrastructure service provider supplies more than 1 million people with electricity, gas, water and heat. To meet the high demand for fail-safe and efficient data center services in the greater Frankfurt area, Mainova WebHouse will build and rent several colocation data centers in the region over the next few years. In doing so, the company attaches great importance to building sustainable and efficient data centers.
The Mainova WebHouse campus in Seckbach follows this principle with its own photovoltaic systems as well as the greening of the facade and outdoor area. There are also plans to heat both the company's own office space and buildings in the neighborhood with the waste heat. The data center campus is scheduled to be ready for occupancy from January 2024 and will have a total IT capacity of around 30 MW on an area of 10,500 m2.
"Data centers are increasingly perceived critically in Germany and especially in Frankfurt, the German capital of the Internet. Yet data centers are the foundation of digitization and a driver of progress for the economy," says Oliver Schiebel, Managing Director of Mainova WebHouse.
"Against this background, it is important to bundle the interests of data center operators and to communicate the importance of data centers for digitization in Germany in a transparent and competent manner. With its experienced members, GDA conveys the positive side of data centers particularly effectively," continues Oliver Schiebel, who has been involved as a board member of the German Datacenter Association since 2021 in addition to his full-time job.
