The GDA Sustainability Talk at the end of September impressively confirmed that we can only master the energy transition together - also with regard to reliable and sustainable digitalization. With Syna GmbH, a 100% owned subsidiary of Süwag Energie AG, based in Frankfurt-Höchst, GDA now welcomes its first member from the energy sector.

Syna becomes first GDA member from the energy sector

As a grid operator for the supply of electricity and gas, Syna and its 1,200 employees work every day to make sure that the energy gets to wherever it is needed. Around 1.8 million residents across four German Federal States are supplied via a power grid extending across some 32,000 kilometres and a 3,700-kilometre-long gas grid.

Besides building and operating electricity, gas and fibre-optic networks and street lighting systems, the company’s main activities include providing grid services for energy suppliers and industry. Under the umbrella of the Süwag Group, Syna also intends to get involved in the planning, construction and operation of data centres.

"The many challenges of sustainable digitalization can only be understood holistically through cross-sector dialog," says Anna Klaft, Chairwoman of GDA's Executive Board. "We are therefore pleased to welcome Syna, a competent discussion partner from the energy sector, to the Association, in order to be able to shape the digital future reliably and sustainably in cooperation," Klaft continues.

Timm Dolezych, Managing Director of Syna, confirms: "To ensure a sustainable grid infrastructure and further growth opportunities for the data center industry in the Rhine-Main region, Syna is investing massively into its 110-kV-grids. Dolezych continues: "At the same time, Süwag-Group is currently considering to start own data-center initiatives, based on its long-term expertise in operating critical infrastructure.“
