The Conference was held at Hotel Skeppsholmen, Gröna gången 1, Stockholm

9:00 - Welcome by moderator Staffan Reveman

Presentation

9:30 - The vital roles of the datacenter associations in shaping the future of digital infrastructure

Anna Klaft (German Datacenter Association) and Pär Åberg (Swedish Data Center Industry Association) presented their organizations as well as the opportunities and challenges in their respective country.

Presentation of GDA

10:00 - A political overview

Niklas Nordström, Senior Advisor at Miltton Public Affairs Sweden, is an experienced opinion leader in both politics and business and has led, and participated in, several government investigations. He has also been chairman of Business Sweden, the Swedish Air Transport Society and the municipality board of Luleå as well as a being a partner, and consultant, at Sweden's largest PR agency.

11:00 - How are Swedish datacenters including heat utilizing in their businesses?

Conapto and EcoDataCenter will present case studies on how they have incorporated heat utilization into their business.

Visualisation

12:00 - “Sweden - A data center dream come true?”

Panelists from inside and outside Sweden discuss the topic, if Sweden is really a “dream come true” in the Data Center industry and if investments and new buildings will add up within politics and sustainability moderated by Bernhard Benz, Country Operations Manager, Colt.

Panelists:

Stefan Nilsson, Chief Commercial Officer, Conapto
Markus Gerber, Business development Europe, nVent Schroff
Senol Meral, Head of Sales Infrastructure, Legrand
Sami Holopainen, Managing Director, Finland & Acting MD Sweden, Equinix

13:30 - How can you capitalize on your excess heat?

Data centers may have traditionally been viewed as a strain on the energy system rather than an asset or opportunity. However, they have excellent potential in frequency regulation, where they can contribute to the stability of the power grid, while also making money. Could Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR) be the way forward for the datacenter industry? A presentation by Simon Dalili - Vattenfall Energy.

14:00 - The T.Loop concept

T.Loop intends to fundamentally change the data center industry in terms of standards for circular energy flows as well as energy efficiency and thus the data center’s climate impact. Their DEC-concept reduces CO2-emissions, electricity consumption and costs, it increases hardware life span and reduces heat waste with up to 100%. It also enables stabilizing local grids and peak shaving; it reduces the need of investments in power grids and energy production.

Presentation

14:30 - “Targeting Sustainability – Is Climate positivity achievable within Technology?”

Panelists from inside and outside Sweden question the achievability of climate positive Technology within data centers, by clarifying the doubts of many towards green data centers and new legitimate innovations.

Panelists:

Rolf Jönsson, Business Developer Datacenter, Alfa Laval
John Wernvik, CMO, EcoDataCenter
Pernille Hoffmann, Digital Realty, Denmark

15:30 - Gaia Gen: Green Software Development

Elsa Westin, a former professional golf player turned green business developer, introduced Gaia Generation: a start-up initiative that allows companies to deliver CO2e emission analytics by analyzing the trends of their IT systems' CO2e footprint, as well as give recommendations on how to make the IT systems environmentally efficient (the principles of the three R's.)

Presentation

16:00 - The world’s largest datacenter heat reuse project

Tiina Davidsainen, Fortum & Patrik Öhlund, Microsoft gave an insight to the unique collaboration between Fortum and Microsoft to heat homes, services and businesses with sustainable waste heat from a new data center region in Helsinki, Finland, using 100% emission-free electricity. A flagship example of climate action and circularity which transforms the design thinking of datacenters of the future.
